Current report on developments on advocates activities,
lectures and publications (last up-date October 2004)
1. News on Advocates activities:
- August 2004: Mo 23 and Tu 24 August International Conference
on the Law of the World Trade Organization: Implementing the
Doha Round, in the Chateau of Büdingen; cf. the programme
of the conference and the background
of the conference (you should
register soon, since only a very few places are still available).
Speakers and participants will come from Japan, EC-counties,
and USA.
Attorney Carsten Knecht has started as attorney on 01 August;
before this, he was working as company lawyer with Dürkopp
Adler AG in Bielefeld; he is specialist for energy law, IT law
and pharmaceutical law.
- July 2004: 15 July: mandate for raising complaints
against the entry into force of the German Alcopops Act.
Attorney Gabriela Burkert-Dresen has started as attorney on 15
July, she is expert for international trade, customs and tax
law; before this, she was working in the law firm Rödl & Partner.
- June 2004: 18 June Seminar for
current questions of export law, joint
seminar with Aussenhandelsverband
Nordrhein-Westfalen. 24 June: Seminar on Energy Law, with law students of the University
of Frankfurt, in Büdingen.
- May 2004: 07 May Presentation
on the Revised Competition Act, in Hanau (celebrating
Grutzeck’s anniversary;
paper can be ordered from us).
- February 2004: Our team shall grow more,
thus, we moved to the Old Town of Büdingen, new
address:
Schlossgasse 2, 63654 Büdingen, new phone number: +49
(6042) 9567-0, new fax number: +49 (6042) 9567-67. This might
be one of the most beautiful law firms in Germany – the
monument protected house derives from the year 1703 (“Lauter’sches
Haus”, see picture below) (For a transitional period
we keep the former conference room in
the
office in
Rinderbügen.)

- January 2004: Michael Hempel joins as new lawyer
and partner; inter alia, he is specialized on foodstuff law,
law
on chemicals, labour law and competition law as well as for
international trade. New co-operation
partner in Peking. On 17
January: Seminar of Frankfurt University
in the law firm: Current questions on WTO-law (also see:
Lectures).
- December: 8 December Seminar on zoning law of Frankfurt
University in Büdingen in Hotel-Restaurant “Sonnenberg” starting
10:00 a.m. (also see: Lectures).
31 December: We wish you a
happy new year! We thank you for your interest in 2003; inter
alia, we love to remember our
summer party.
- November: Start of
two new co-operation partners, in Paris: Curtil & Honnorat and in Shanghai: Shu Jin Law Firm.
- October: Mandate for IT-Outsourcing of two
energy and water services of two towns.
- September: Mandate for an export
criminal procedure before the Regional Court Stuttgart (starting
15 October,
appointments through the end of April).
- July: Lectures in
Japan by Dr. Harald Hohmann (see below).
- June: Seminar on energy
law with Management Circle: Current questions on law
of public services in Berlin
on 23 June (see below “Seminars”).
- May: At the beginning
of May, Ricardo Hernández,
LL.M., started working as a lawyer in our law firm.
He is specialized on pharmaceutical and foodstuff law as well
as on law on chemicals.
- May: Summer party on 23 May 2003: More
than 100 guests from all over Germany joined our party; we
would like
to thank you for coming and for your interest!
- April: Tilman
Makatsch started working as a lawyer in our law firm;
before he worked with Lovells in
Frankfurt. He is specialized on energy
and anti-trust
law as well as on questions concerning international trade.

his Kommentar zum Ausfuhrrecht (Book Commenting on all Provisions
of German and European Export Trade Law) in February 2002, Harald
Hohmann now published his second PhD thesis Angemessene Außenhandelsfreiheit
im Vergleich: Die Rechtspraxis der USA, Deutschlands (inklusive
der EG) und Japans zum Außenhandel und ihre Konstitutionalisierung (Reasonable Freedom of Export Trade Compared: Export Law in Action
of USA, Germany (incl. The EC) and Japan and the Question of
its Limits by National and International Constitutions).
